![]() I learned a great deal from the articles in this issue, although there have been moments when, to paraphrase Mark As I learned from this theme issue, it is an even higher honor when oneâs ideas are taken seriously and critically engaged by the leaders in the multiple fields oneâs work touches on. Before I coedited this theme issue of JHPPL, I thought that one of the highest honors in academics was to have oneâs work taken seriously and critically engaged by the leaders in oneâs chosen field. As the project leader and principal author of the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice (FTC/DOJ) 2004 report Improving Health Care: A Dose of Competition, I want to express my personal appreciation to Mark Schlesinger and the Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law for agreeing to publish this special theme issue, to the individual authors for the time and effort they devoted to their contributions to the issue, to the peer reviewers who provided detailed comments on each of the contributions, and to my coeditor without whom this issue would never have happened at all â let alone included the distinguished participants we were ultimately able to attract. ![]()
